"I did not take the decision lightly. I was very emotional and spoke strongly because I was hurt by the situation. But the claims that I became physical are completely false. That part of the story has never been true," he explained.
The ex-Hearts of Oak winger said he got the news late at night in camp after teammate Quincy Owusu-Abeyie woke him to meet the team manager.
He was taken into a meeting with the technical team and GFA officials where he was told he wouldn’t make the final squad.
Kingston admitted the decision shocked him and said he openly expressed his disappointment during the meeting.
He revealed that then GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi tried to console him, saying there would be future chances to play for Ghana.
But Kingston said he questioned that, as he had planned to step away from the national team after the tournament to focus on his club career and make room for younger players.
Ghana went on to reach the quarter-finals at South Africa 2010, the country’s best World Cup performance.
