The first semi-final game kicked off after the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) lost to the University of Ghana (UG) in what turned out to be a tightly contested and fiercely competitive affair.
University of Ghana beats UENR and heads to the finals of the 2026 Honda Football Championship. Match Day 4 delivered exactly what everyone hoped for. The semi-finals of the 2026 Honda Football Championship got underway at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium and the evening did not disappoint.
Both sides came into the game fully fired up, and it showed. The football was tactical, physical and intense, with both teams pushing hard in attack while holding firm at the back.

Neither side was willing to give an inch and after a full 60 minutes of football followed by an extra 20 minutes, the score line remained goalless. With nothing separating the two sides, the match went to penalties.
UENR stepped up first but got things off to a shaky start, sending their opening kick over the bar and handing UG an early advantage. That miss gave UG all the confidence they needed.
UG were composed and clinical from the spot, scoring all four (4) of their penalties without hesitation. UENR's hopes were further crushed when goalkeeper Adinan Abdul Fatawu produced a brilliant save to deny UENR their third kick, leaving them with just one goal. UG won the shootout and booked their place in the final.
The second semi-final will be between University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) and University of Development Studies (UDS). One of these two sides will earn the right to face UG in the final of the 2026 Honda Football Championship.
