A Ghanaian pastor has stirred conversations online after advising members of his congregation to use the opportunity of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup to remain abroad rather than return home.

During a sermon, the pastor openly encouraged church members who may travel to the United States for the tournament to take advantage of the trip and remain there.

“The World Cup we are going to play, try by all means and go, and when you get there, just run," he told the congregation.

He then used himself as an example, suggesting he would do the same if given the chance to travel.

“Me, for instance, if I arrive at the airport, I will run away. Even if I stay there for just one day, I will still run," he added.

The pastor went on to advise those who manage to secure visas or travel plans for the tournament not to make it easy for authorities to send them back.

“Those of you who will go, when you arrive, find somewhere and run to,” he added.

He also cautioned them about how they present their intentions before travelling.

“When people are asked, they say they will return. Don’t say that,” he added.

His comments have since circulated widely on social media as anticipation builds toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
