It was only one call and it was not a penalty. If you said you watched the match, you could see the nigerian players was already putting his hands behind his back as the ball graced it. The rules don't call it a foul. Nor is it a foul when the ball touches the hand in a ball to hand situation, or a position that the player couldn't readily or easily avoid the ball,. Go read up on fifa rules.
That said, Morrocco was the better team and Nigeria was a shadow of itself in that match. Our fowards were caged and I don't know what happened to the wings. It's called the super eagles for a reason, use the wings (lol).
Also, the refree was great at the beginning. The 1st half was sweet refeering untill the 2nd half when he saw that the Morrocans hadn't scored despite their superiority, then he started making questioning designs, eg Calvin Bassy's yellow card when it was plain to see that he was being jersey pulled. Rewatch the match again objectively like I did. I watched in real time and those Morrocans meant business from start to finish. They had naija's play and am disappointed that the coach didn't get it that they would.

Look at that yellow card to Bassey, a clear foul on Bassey - shirt pulling by the Morrocan turned out to be against the Nigerian.

Now they will turn attention to the DRC issue to find ways and means to qualify for yhe World Cup. The yellow card for Bassey was questionable. Basses was my man of the match in spite of the yellow card.
I wasn't satisfied with the referee's performance 100% but that was not why Nigeria lost. He was consistent to a large degree and wasn't influenced by the large noise from the Moroccan fans who constantly shouted for penalties to be awarded to their side.
Nigeria should take solace in the fact that the team is now jelling after the disastrous world cup failure.
The banter between Osimhen and Lookman may have played a part as l did not see a single linkage between these two wonderful players during the entire game.
Sad that we wouldn't see Osimhen, Lookman and Bassey on North America. They would have made Africa proud, but it is what it is.

Larye made it nearly impossible for the Nigerians to Tackle. As regards the handball. Thank God for Ai Do a quick research regarding the new FIFA handball rules and you'll see that the Morocco claim of handball was unfounded and if Laryea had blown for that VAR would have overturned his decision, which would have made it more obvious that their was some bias. The rules a referee applies in game should be consistent. We'll as a Nigerian my fellows said a Ghanian referees would be trash but I said nah let's not hastily generalise.... Hmm... I am a Ghanaian. Full blooded. The Ga refree was a disaster in my estimation. Why was Bassey given the yellow card?Secondly, someone the fouls conceded by Morroco were left of the hook and instead free kicks were awarded to Morro o where they did not deserve it.This attitude needs to stop for CAF to be seen as a serious body controlling Adrican football. One could see that even Arsene Wenger was not comfortable with somenof the referee's decisions judging from his demeanor in the stands anytime Laryea erred in his decisions. Yes.
But come to think of this:Nigeria was lacklustre in their passes and ball possession and that caused them the defeat.Thirdly, were the penalty takers from the Naija team bewitched?Natalie for me was the man of the match.Nigeria would have conceded three clear goals in regulation time but for Nwabali's bravery. He parred away two clear goals into corner kicks and caught another dangerous shot that was goal bound. He carried that heroism into the penalty shoot-out and was the first goalkeeper to save a penalty. All that the penalty takers had to do was to compose themselves and cool slot the balls into the net.The players knew who Bono was and did not need to be told of Bono's heroics. He Bono saved penalties against Portugal in Qatar 2022 and this was enough to warn Ademola Lookman and the rest as to who he was and what he could do.It is not easy leading a host nation in such a tense shoot out and one could see the frustration and the lost of hope from the Morrocan players and the bench. All that penalty takers had to do was to be brave and they messed everything up.Goodluck next time Naija.I was actually saddened by the defeat.

I doubt if this view of Ghanaweb represents the view of a cross-section of Ghanians around the world who watched the AFCON 2025 Semi-final match between Nigeria and Morocco on Wednesday. For me, the officiating was a disappointment! Nigerians, generally, do not excuse poor performances of their teams. They did not excuse the team when they lost to CIV two years earlier at the final match because the Nigerian team did not play well. Conversely, when a Nigerian team plays well, win or loose, they acknowledge it. On Wednesday, the Nigeria team was good.
The officiating of Nigeria vs Morocco game was worse than the officiating of Cameroon vs Morocco or Nigeria vs Tunisia, to name a few. How can you play for 120 minutes with only two yellow cards that went to one team? Are the Moroccans perfect in play? The referee wanted them to have a full compliment of their squad for the next match (final or third place game) while decimating Nigerian team with yellow cards. There were too many fouls against Nigeria deserving yellow cards clearly seen on video playbacks that the centre referee ignored. Maybe, his vision was impaired by something. With the standard he put up, he should be relegated to less important games.
Ghanaweb would surely have a different opinion about the game if Ghanaian was the opponent of Morocco in that game and another referee officiating exactly as their countryman did.
Ghana, see you at the world cup where you will consume the tea brewed by your referee brother at AFCON 2025.

Daniel Laryea is a total disgrace to his family and the whole of Ghana. The world watched one of the poorest officiating it had ever witnessed at such level of a continental competition. He tried to show fairness yet had to flow with the matching order powered by either the bribe he collected or his bias against Nigeria. CAF is also at fault here. A Ghanaian Ref with South Africans as Assistant. And Daniel and his gang fell for it.
The Super Eagles were not at the best in the game, an unbiased referee won't have made it look like a set up to ensure the Moroccans win.
Ref. Daniel Laryea and Ghana as a whole is a disgrace to Africa.

This write up is subjective!
I'm not concerned with where the referee is coming from but the fact is that he HIGHLY bias in his decisions.
1. The game didn't flow for the Super Eagles because of the incessant whistling by the referee for offences supposedly committed by Nigerian players.
Their opponents sometimes in the cause of the game played rougher tackles but went scot free.
2. Calvin Bassey was yellow carded for being consistently tactical and defending his territory with his body soul and spirit. The offender was Brahim Dias who was pulling Bassey's jersey and dragging him back, but Bassey got the card. Yet you said "When giant falls, the referee gets the blame".
3. Ademola and Iwobi were fouled right before the referee. But since it was Morocco that recovered the ball, the referee turned blind eyes. Iwobi's tackle in another scene wasn't up to what he received and the game was stopped for foul.
4. At any point Nigeria recovered ball, the game will be stopped for a supposed foul. How do you expect the Eagles to flow in play in this kind of situation.
I'm not saying this because Nigeria lost. Even if they had won, I will say the same thing. The referee was highly bias!
The Nigerian team under Eric Chelle has been exceptional and awesome in this tournament. I pray they win the third place match against Egypt as a consolation. Even they don't, I remain proud of this team and their displays on the pitch.
Long live the Super Eagles

That put fears in the heart of all Nigeria players, high possession with on 2 shorts on target.

His actions on that day was an absolute sell out to the Morroccans that he did not deem it right to issue them a single Yellow Card with their very rough & reckless play on the Nigerians.
But judgement day is nigh.

Why did you feel the need to post this nonsense.... Kelvin Bassey was fouled but received the Yellow card and was deemed to have fouled the Moroccan. I guess Ghanian referees are still all about the Money. What Scum. Football being a contact sport was reduced to a game of little girls. Because the Moroccans couldn't absorb any form of physical contact. Anyway, May the black stars of Ghana get a continuous supply of such Bias officiating against them as Daniel Laryea Gave on that match. Isaeyyyy!!!!

WELL DONE MR LARYEA. DON'T MIND THESE NOISY FOOLS WITH VERY LOW EQs.

I witness how Ghanaians were praying over whenever Nigeria was about to kick a penalty and that says it all. Sorry for Ghana its such a shame and pity that you’re a nation of insecurity and bitterness.
We are proud of you, Mr. Laryea. You made everyone proud
He did well. I saw the game. Naija had too many incomplete passes.
Well done Nii, .the sky is the limit .God be with you for making our nation proud
Was Nigeria expecting to win with such incomplete and inaccurate passes??. Hardly a shot on target ???. Losing possession in midfield by heart??.. wasn't just their nyt. Morocco a better side in every aspect
In fact he made too many bad calls in my view. What he punished Naija for he let it go for Morocco.
I think the pressure was too much for him.... Some of his decisions depicted anti-Nigerian approach
This is not true, he was not good enough, is a shame to write this article
