The issue is not whether Frederick Ansah Botchway has the right to complain—he absolutely does. The real problem is relevance. How does recycling grievances of former Hearts or Kotoko players revive a dying football culture or put fans back in the stands?
This brand of journalism feeds nostalgia and controversy, not growth. It generates clicks, not communities. Serious sports journalism is supposed to inform, challenge, and inspire, yet much of our coverage is trapped in the past—endless “Hearts vs Kotoko” interviews, recycled scandals, and personal beefs that even BBC Sport would dismiss as non-stories.
While journalists chase old faces for emotional soundbites, basic professional duties are neglected. In 2026, publishing weekly Ghana Premier League tables, fixtures, form guides, and match analysis should be automatic. Instead, fans struggle to even know who is top of the league. When information is scarce, interest dies. You cannot market what you refuse to document.
Good sports journalism does what concerts do well: it creates anticipation. Shatta Wale or Stonebwoy fill stadiums because their teams build narratives—countdowns, rivalries, behind-the-scenes content, statistics, performances, and stakes. Football journalism should be doing the same: profiling emerging talents, explaining tactics, tracking title races, highlighting derbies, and holding administrators accountable with evidence, not gossip.
If journalists treated the Ghana Premier League like a product instead of a memory, fans would return. Football does not lose to concerts because the game is boring; it loses because the storytelling is lazy. Where there is no narrative, there is no emotion. Where there is no information, there is no loyalty.
Strong sports journalism doesn’t just report football—it markets it. Until journalists stop amplifying bitterness and start building relevance, our stadia will remain empty, and concerts will continue to do what football journalism failed to do: give people a reason to show up.

@Akwasi, did it occur to you that European players are treated better than our local players and that is the reason you don't see them grant such interviews?
