The guy is not playing down World Cup qualification! What he is saying is that "winning" the Afcon trophy is better than qualifying for World cup only to get eliminated in group stage or even knockout stages with NOTHING to show for WC participation- just going there to make up the numbers. Koulibally might have point as I do not see an African country winning the WC trophy in the nearest future. In other words a "Bird in hand is worth more than two in the bush."
