  Let's correct this anomaly. With the exception of soldiers, all others in Ghana are civilians. The Ghana Police Service has been making this mistake repeatedly by calling themselves some names other than civilians. I expect their leaders to know this and correct their men and women who make that mistake. Officers of all the other security services are civilians. That is why when they are involved in any criminal or civil cases, they are tried at the civil courts in Ghana. It is not the same for soldiers. Thank you.

  Stop making that mistake. The court marshal of the military doesn’t try criminal cases involving military personnel. Neither does the military even have the mandate to prosecute such personnel. The Police Service investigate them, prefer charges against them and are subsequently tried before the law courts of the land.
  The same constitution that stipulates the formation of the military equally established the formation of all other security services of the state.
  The fact that the Police Service changed from being “Police Force,” formerly the Service doesn’t mean the personnel are civilians.
  The same duties performed by military personnel at UN operations are performed by the FPU and SWAT teams of the Police Service out there.
  The difference is that other duties and job descriptions of other Police personnel either than the two outfits outlined earlier is different from the Military during such peacekeeping missions.

  So technically the Police team cheated as they used people who are not police and were not even recruits but plain civilians from zongo and other places. By the way the Zongo guys are very good footballers and in those days they play for about 2 or 3 teams as casual staff in the departmental league in Sekondi in the seventies until they brought a law that you have to be at least 14days in employment before playing.
