Black Stars defender, Jonathan Mensah says the male senior national team will have to do a lot of groundwork before they can win the 2019 African Cup of Nation’s (AFCON).

Ghana qualified for the 2019 AFCON after the Confederation of African Football disqualified Sierra Leone from the qualifiers leaving Ghana with 6 points, one point behind Kenya who have seven points at the top of the table.

The continental trophy has however eluded the West African country on three occasions since they last won it in 19882, but speaking to Ghanaweb in an interview, Jonathan Mensah disclosed that a lot of factors come to play on the journey to win any trophy thus a lot time and effort must be invested into as a team to ensure that they annex their fifth trophy.

“It’s just a broad thing, it’s not just players but everything starting from preparation to training camp and a lot. We have a lot to do, we have a lot of ground to cover to be able to be saying that we ready to win something, the Columbus Crew player said.

In the interview with Ghanaweb, the 28-year-old added that, “Being ready isn’t just a day or two, it’s a process that we have to keep going on and on, so we just going to work hard with our clubs so that when the time comes we can join the team.”

The U20 World Cup winner emphasized that winning the AFCON goes beyond talent adding that “its not always about talent it’s about discipline, preparation, management and so on. We to go together as a team.”

The Black Stars will know which group and teams they will play in the 2019 AFCON on 22 January when the draw for the group stages of the African Confederation Cup is conducted in Cairo.
