Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was in tears when a banner of his late mother was displayed during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool on March 10, 2026.

As the Champions League anthem played before kick-off, a huge banner was unveiled at Rams Park depicting Osimhen alongside his children, with his mother smiling back at them. The words on the banner read: “We are family, and family is everything.”

Upon seeing the banner, Osimhen could not hold back his emotions, and tears streamed down his face as the cameras captured the moment.

Fans waved flags and chanted along with the anthem, creating a charged atmosphere. While supporters rejoiced in paying tribute to their star striker, it was an emotional moment for Osimhen, who quickly composed himself to focus on the match.

Galatasaray went on to secure a slim but crucial 1-0 victory over Liverpool thanks to a goal from Mario Lemina.

The Turkish side will head to Anfield for the second leg with a one-goal advantage, but they will need Osimhen and other key players at their best to overcome the Reds at their historic stadium.
