Use home-based players and face CAF’s wrath - Daara

Ghana FA Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has cautioned the Sports Ministry to avoid using locally-based players for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on September 3 or face sanctions from FIFA.

According to Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuije, last week he informed Black Stars Management Committee Chairman George Afriyie that government does not have the needed funding to procure flight tickets for the foreign-based senior national team players.

But according to the FA, the players have decided to buy their own tickets with support from injured deputy skipper Andre Ayew, however, Sannie thinks otherwise.

“To pull up this thing at this very last minute is against all FIFA rules. You cannot invite players to the national team, be it local or foreign, a few days to a match, it is impossible.

“According to the FIFA laws you must invite these players 14 days clear. In this very last minute it is impossible and if we don’t honour the match, one, CAF will ban us and other subsequent AFCONS”, he told Starr Sports.
