University of Education, Winneba tops all

Tamale, Feb. 29, GNA - The University of Education, Winneba emerged the overall winners at the just ended Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games in Tamale when grabbed 20 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 7 bronze medals.

The competition which begun on February 20 was keenly contested by the six public universities in the country. The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) placed second with 17 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 13 bronze medals.

University of Ghana, Legon came third with 15 gold medals, 20 silver and 16 bronze medals.

The Ogua boys and girls of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), took the fourth position with eight gold medals, 14 silver and 18 bronze medals.

University for Development Studies (UDS) could not fulfill their 'Host and Win' dream and had to contend with the fifth position with no gold medal, and had only two silver and two bronze medals.

The host University however, compensated their fans by beating their counterparts from the University of Ghana in the last men's football match with a 3-2 victory on penalties after drawing 1-1 at the end of full time.

The 'Miners' of the University for Mines and Technology, Takwa failed to win any medal but promised their fans of an improved performance at the next GUSA Games.
