Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has dismissed persistent claims that he influences player selections for the Black Stars, insisting he often sees the national team’s squad list at the same time as the general public.
Questions about interference in team selection have followed successive Black Stars coaches over the years, with some supporters and pundits alleging that officials within the football hierarchy have a say in who gets called up.
However, speaking on The Delay Show, Okraku firmly rejected those suggestions and maintained that coaches are given the freedom to perform their duties without outside influence.
“Firstly, every person who works in Ghana’s football was appointed by the Executive Committee or me. Each one of them is answerable to the ExCo. That is not interference,” he explained.

The GFA boss acknowledged that there are regular engagements between football administrators and national team coaches, but stressed that such interactions do not extend to deciding who makes the squad.
“When it comes directly to the work of coaches of the national team, nobody interferes in that job. Our various levels of engagement are conventional,” he said.
Okraku then revealed that he is not involved in the final selection process, claiming he often learns of squad announcements at the same moment as ordinary Ghanaians.
“What most people don’t know is that, anytime Ghanaians see the selection of the Black Stars, is also the same time I see it. A lot of the time, I’ll be at the stadium before a Black Stars game, and that’s the time I’ll read the team selection. It’s not part of my concerns,” he added.
