Stephen Appiah close to signing for TP Mazembe

Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah is rumoured to be close to signing for Congolese giants TP Mazembe.

The 33-year-old announced last month he would be signing for a club in the New Year as he makes a return to competitive football.

Unsubstantiated reports claim representatives of the former Juventus star have been contacted.

Mazembe, owned by wealthy businessman Moise Katumbi, are capable of meeting his financial demands.

Appiah has been without club since May 2012 when he ended a four-month spell at Serbian side Vojvodina.

He has previously played for Parma, Udinese, Brescia, Fenerbahce and Cesena.
