Stars bonuses remain same

Bonuses for the Black Stars have not been reviewed despite attempts by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to implement a 50% cut, according to GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Sector minister Dr Mustapha Ahmed has suggested financial difficulties could necessitate a review while his deputy has said on various platforms that the ministry will make a take or leave it offer of $5000 per match to members of the team.

But Nyantakyi says all those proposals at best remain plans.

“The winning bonuses have not been reviewed,” he said.

“If there are plans to reduce to them then it is still a plan and has not been put into practice as yet. As we speak the current bonus of $10,000 still stands until such a time that it has been reviewed and communicated to the players.”

He added: “That is possible because the country is facing challenges but I think that if there are any challenges we should share them with the players and let them appreciate and buy into the challenges that the country is going.

“If the country is unable to pay that and is able to pay an acceptable amount, we should communicate that to the players. Maybe at right time we can revert to higher figures I have heard rumours, news and discussions at the ministry and youth and sports but I think that these things should be communicated.”

The players have been paid their outstanding bonus from the win against Rwanda but are now owed for the fixture against Comoros.
