Sports minister, NSA leaders do not deserve to keep their jobs - Okudzeto Ablakwa

MP for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa MP for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called for the dismissal of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, and other authorities at the National Sports Authority (NSA).

His call comes on the back of the recent decision by CAF to revoke the approval for Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host international matches, citing its status as a category 3 venue.

Despite the government investing millions of dollars in refurbishing various national stadiums, none currently meets the required international standards.

Addressing the matter, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphasized that leadership within both the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the NSA should be dismissed.

“President Akufo-Addo should have faced impeachment long ago, and none of the officials at the Ministry or the NSA are fit to retain their positions,” the North Tongu MP stated.

According to the lawmaker in his recent exposé, “colossal amounts of taxpayer funds in excess of GHS85 million were actually released to crony companies to rehabilitate three of our national sports stadia in recent years.

Painstaking parliamentary oversight has led me to the firm conclusion that if Ghana had obtained value for money in these contracts, we would have avoided this unprecedented monumental international disgrace of all our stadia facing prohibition by CAF from hosting international competitions."
