Parliament has announced that Speaker Alban Bagbin will officially launch the 2026 Democracy Cup on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium in Parliament House.

In a statement released on March 28, 2026, it was noted that the event is expected to set the tone for another landmark chapter in one of Ghana's most symbolic sporting initiatives.

The ceremony is anticipated to attract a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including government officials, Members of Parliament, representatives from the sporting fraternity, corporate partners and sponsors, as well as members of the diplomatic corps.

“The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, together with the leadership of the Parliament of Ghana, will officially launch the third edition of the Democracy Cup at a special ceremony in Accra. The launch is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 11:00 GMT, at the Justice D. F. Annan Auditorium within Parliament House,” portions of the statement released by Parliament read.

It was further stated that details about the tournament and other relevant information will be made known to the public in due course.

“As anticipation builds ahead of the official launch, organizers will unveil further details, including participating clubs, fixtures, and prize packages. Invited guests are encouraged to confirm their attendance as preparations gather pace for what promises to be an exciting and impactful edition of the Democracy Cup,” the statement added.

The Democracy Cup, designed to strengthen democratic values through sport, has steadily evolved into a unique platform that blends football, governance, and national identity.
