Senegal’s players and officials showcased their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title to fans ahead of their friendly match against Peru on March 28, 2026.
Captain Kalidou Koulibaly was seen holding the trophy, while each of the players touched it to share in the moment and cheer themselves on as they lined up in the tunnel.
They later presented the trophy to the fans before kick-off and posed for a group photo with it.

The gesture was intended to send a message to the world that they are the rightful winners of the 2025 AFCON and that no boardroom decision could alter that fact, despite the controversy.
This follows a ruling by the CAF Appeal Board that Senegal breached Article 84 of the regulations, which prohibits staging a walk-off. As a result, Senegal were deemed to have forfeited the game, and the final result was nullified.
Applying the regulation, Morocco were declared champions with a 3-0 scoreline against Senegal as punishment for the temporary walk-off.
The ruling sparked backlash from coaches, former players, and pundits, who argued that the decision was flawed and the regulation misapplied, accusing CAF of disgracing African football.
