Secret Meetings and More: How external bodies allegedly 'interfered' in AFCON 2025 ruling

Fresh controversy has engulfed African football after investigative journalist Romain Molina made explosive claims suggesting behind-the-scenes interference in a key ruling by the Confederation of African Football.

Molina, who specialises in in-depth reporting on football governance, has doubled down on his allegations, insisting that external influence played a role in shaping the initial decision linked to the 2025 AFCON dispute involving Morocco and Senegal.

“There was interference against Morocco in the first instance. I sign and I persist,” Molina stated, reinforcing his position amid growing debate around the case.

According to his findings, the situation is far from straightforward.

While some narratives suggest Morocco may have benefited from the outcome, Molina claims the early stages of the process were, in fact, influenced against the North African side, pointing to a deeper, more complex power struggle within CAF.

Central to the revelations is an alleged private warning from Augustin Senghor to CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

The warning reportedly referenced “secret meetings” linked to the case, raising concerns about transparency and the integrity of the decision-making process.

These claims, though yet to be independently verified by CAF, add another layer of tension to an already volatile dispute that has now reached the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

With conflicting accounts, alleged private communications, and questions over procedural fairness, the controversy continues to deepen, leaving observers to question what truly happened behind closed doors.

CAF formally stripped Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title following their triumph at the tournament.

The decision has since been challenged, with Senegal taking the matter to CAS in a bid to overturn the ruling and be reinstated as champions.
