President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has arrived in Senegal for high-level discussions following the controversy surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Motsepe, who arrived on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, is expected to meet Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as officials of the Senegalese Football Federation.

The talks are likely to centre on the growing dispute involving Senegal, CAF, and tournament hosts Morocco after a controversial ruling linked to the AFCON final.

The situation escalated after CAF’s Appeal Board determined that the final between Senegal and Morocco, played in January 2026, should be treated as a forfeiture. The decision led to Senegal being stripped of the title, with the championship instead awarded to Morocco.

The ruling denied Senegal what would have been their second AFCON crown and has sparked widespread reaction across African football. Many observers and supporters in Senegal have criticised the outcome, describing the development as a major blow for the national team.

Senegal’s football authorities have since taken the matter further by filing an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, seeking to challenge CAF’s decision.

Motsepe’s visit is therefore seen as an important step in efforts to calm tensions and engage directly with Senegalese authorities as the dispute continues to unfold.
