The Ghana FA ran background checks on new China signing Mubarak Wakaso before naming him in the Black Stars squad to face Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Fears over the midfielder being infected with the deadly virus were raised when the new Jiangsu Suning FC midfielder was named in the Black Stars squad for this month matches.

The 29-year-old signed for the Chinese Premier League Jiangsu Suning F.C in January but never went to the Asia country, where the deadly coronavirus broke out.

Wakaso has his medical in Dubai before joining their training camp in the same Arabian city and has never stepped foot in China since the disease broke out.

His inclusion in the 23-man squad has been a major concern, but the FA has allayed those fears.

''Mubarak Wakaso has not been to China since he joined Chinese club Jiangsu Suning F.C in January,'' Ghana FA Spokesperson Henry Asante-Twum told Angel 102.9 FM.

''Wakaso joined the team in Dubai for medical and he has been there until he returned back to Ghana few days ago.''

The Black Stars will assemble in Ghana on the weekend of 21-22 March for the first leg tie against the Nile Crocodiles on 27 March at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The return leg will be played in Omdurman three days.
