Kotoko Play Okwawu On Sunday

Kumasi Asante Kotoko welcome, Okwawu United to the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Sunday in what is expected to be a very thrilling encounter.

After gaining a walkover in the preliminary round of the African Champions league following the withdrawal of AS Tempete Mocaf of the Central African Republic, the Porcupine Warriors will use this match to assess the battle readiness of their team as they prepare for Asec Mimosa in the next stage of the competition.

With the new breeze blowing in the camp of the Oseikrom lads, there is every reason for them to look up to some exciting performance from the team.

New coach Hans Kodric is gradually warming himself into the hearts of fans of Kotoko but he would be the first to admit that this is a task that may not come easy considering the great expectations of the fans. On Sunday, he will have the opportunity to send his ratings high when he guides his boys against the soccer mountaineers.

Even though it is a friendly match, the stakes appear quite high. The onerous responsibility lies on the shoulders of the striking force of the club to lift up the red and white flag of the Porcupine Warriors.

William Tierro appears to be the main card for Coach Hans Kodric, upfront. Quickly establishing himself as the top marksman for Kotoko, Tierro has another opportunity to glow and exert himself as the arrowhead in attack.

Okwawu United will definitely have a lot to worry about, as their defenders try to stop the rampaging Tierro and the clinical finisher, Frank Osei. There is also the ?Terrible Terror?, Charles Taylor whose darting runs and amazing dribbling down the flanks has been a source of worry for many defenders.

In defence, Kotoko looks rock solid. Dan Yeboah provides reliable cover for goalkeeper Mohammed Alhassan who is presently establishing himself as the safest pair of hands in Kotoko.

This is a match the Porcupine Warriors will love to win to assure their supporters that they are battle ready and ready to take Africa by storm. But the mountaineers also have a lot to gain from an impressive show.

The new administration of the club under the chairmanship of Mr. Jascot Ampadu has a lot to prove after taking over the reigns from Asiko. Mr. Ampadu will fight the battle with youthful men on the day he expects to draw rings around the Porcupine Warriors.

But in midfield, Kotoko has very youthful players who can burn the heat to snuff out the challenge of Okwawu United. Meteors skipper, Yusif Chibsah, Edmund Owusu-Ansah and Stephen Oduro are likely to be the men for the midfield action on Sunday and that could mean some exciting ball juggling in midfield.

Soccer fans will have a lot to cheer about because even though it is just a friendly encounter, it promises to bring out the best from the Porcupine Warriors, who start as favourites.
