Preko sets his sights

Ghanaian international Yaw Preko, who recently joined Sweden's Halmstad BK, has set his sights on scoring the goals that will lead the club to the title.

Halmstad, who last won the Swedish premiership in 2000 and who finished 9th last season, have assembled a squad of good players in the hope of rediscovering former glories.

The club is hoping that the signing of the 29-year-old Ghanaian can fill the void left after Polish striker Igor Sypniewski joined rivals Malmo FF.

And coach Jan Andersson is convinced that he has found the right player.

"Yaw is a good player technically, he plays well upfront and is a great finisher," Andersson said.

"He has everything the club wants a forward to have."

Andersson agrees that a lot is expected from Preko, who was signed from Turkish side Gaziantespor.

"Our fans are expecting a lot because he is replacing Igor and the Polish player was fantastic last season."

"He can shoot from any angle and from any distance," the coach said.

"He has the pace and skill to get through tight defences, we hope that Yaw will prove us right."

Preko, who has also played for Anderlecht in Belgium and Turkey's Fenerbache, has scored one goal in the five friendly games he has played for his new club.
