I’m not contesting Nyantakyi – KK Sarpong

Ex-Kotoko chief Dr. KK Sarpong has rejected reports that he has set up his team to challenge Kwesi Nyantakyi as the president of the Ghana Football Association at next year’s elections.

An Accra radio station reported on Monday that Dr Sarpong has joined Kpando-based club Heart of Lions to help him stay in football to be able to challenge Nyantakyi for the top post.

The report also claimed that the banking mogul has set aside $70,000 to help in his campaign to unseat Nyantakyi who has been in charge of Ghana football for eight years.

It was even suspected that a team including ex-Kotoko executives Kwame Baah Nuakoh, Ben Nti and Listowell Burkarson, as well as, some members of the current executive committee of the GFA, have all joined the group seeking to force out Nyantakyi.

But Kwame Baah Nuakoh says the former Kotoko board chairman is not keen on any post in Ghana football.

“I have his (Dr Sarpong) permission to inform all that, he is not interested in any post at the FA,” Kwame Baah Nuakoh wrote in a Facebook post.

Dr Sarpong has been quick to come out with denial after several radio stations in Accra reported that he has already approached some regional FA chairmen to express interest in the GFA top post.

Some also reported that, the group steered by Dr Sarpong has already started paying referees fees for several Division One clubs in a bid to win their votes ahead of next year’s elections.
