Former Black Stars striker Augustine Arhinful says it is not necessary to talk about injured Schalke 04 midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng, since he wasn’t part of the team that demolished Egypt 6-1 in a 2014 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
He told Takoradi-based Skyy Power FM that those who have played for Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers are the ones that have to be talked about, adding that if Boateng isn’t selected for the World Cup, no one can say much.
“If Boateng is not selected for the World Cup itself, I don’t think anyone can complain. We need to talk about the players who have played so far for Ghana and so it is not necessary to talk about Kevin Prince Boateng.”
Arhinful, who represented Ghana at the 2000 African Nations Cup, also told Skyy Power FM that if he was the head coach of the Black Stars, he would rather pick players who have represented Ghana during the qualifying campaign, but said that selecting Kevin Prince Boateng is a decision for head coach Kwasi Appiah to take.
Arhinful remarked that even though his former national team-mates C.K. Akunnor, Osei Kuffuor and himself no longer play for the Black Stars, they were invited to be with the team to encourage them, wondering why Boateng did not fly to Ghana just to be with the team whilst undergoing treatment.
