Former Ghanaian midfielder, Derrick Boateng has revealed that legendary coach José Mourinho once wanted to sign him for Real Madrid while he was playing in Spain.

The ex-Black Stars midfielder disclosed that while playing for Getafe in 2010, he was the team’s standout performer, which attracted interest from several clubs.

He noted that around the same time, the Portuguese manager was coaching Real Madrid and even sent him a text expressing his desire to sign him.

Boateng stated that Mourinho wanted to sell Lassana Diarra to make room for him at Los Blancos, and he was astonished when he received the message.

“During my first year at Getafe (2010), I was the MVP. I was the star in the team. José Mourinho texted me and told me he wanted Lassana Diarra out of Real Madrid so he could sign me, but I should keep it between the two of us.

"The text came when I was on my way to the bank. I couldn’t even go inside, I was shocked,” he said, as shared by sports journalist Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo on Facebook.

During Derek Boateng's career, he played for several European clubs including Fulham, Eibar, FC Köln, and Rayo Oklahoma City in the United States, among others.

Derek Boateng He also featured for the Black Stars in various international competitions.
