Help promote lesser sports, Benyiwa-Doe

Cape Coast, April 29, GNA - The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa- Doe, has implored chairmen and executives of the various sporting associations to use their influence and experience to promote and develop the disciplines they have pledged to chair.

The Regional Minister, who made the appeal in a speech read on her behalf during the inauguration of the Regional Associations at the Robert Mensah stadium, Cape Coast also tasked the chief Executive of National Sports Council, Members of Regional Sports Council Board, The Regional sports Development Officer and Chairmen of various sports associations to help unearth, nurture, develop, promote and organize young talents to create wealth, win laurels and project the region through sports. Some of the disciplines inaugurated are Table Tennis, Boxing, Athletics, Hockey, Badminton, Basketball, Netball, Volley Ball and Handball. Mrs Benyiwa-Doe therefore appealed to the officers to give their best so that "we can guide the youth in the Region to take up sports very seriously to bring glory not only to the region but the individuals and their families."

The Regional Minister said the success of sports in the Region cannot be realized without the able leadership of the chairmen who have been entrusted to head the associations. She said she was of the hope that they will chalk more laurels for the region by helping to produce national and international sports men and women.

The Minister assured the various associations of the Regional Coordinating Council's support to help boost their activities and implored the District, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies to support all sports for the realization of their common goal.

Mr Wolanyo Agra, acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Sports Council, said the objective of the inauguration of the association was to help promote the lesser known sports and appealed to the members to liaise with the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to source funds to supplement government efforts.

Mr Kweku A. Wilson, Central Regional Sports Development Officer appealed to the various chairmen to co-operate with their coaches and technical officers so to work as a team to help re-organize, develop and promote sports in the Region.
