GHALCA Top 4: AshGold completes double over Kotoko

AshantiGold have booked a date in the finals of the 2014 GHALCA Top 4 competition after completing the double over league champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko on Wednesday amid uncertainties over their final opponents.

The Obuasi-based side beat Asante Kotoko by a lone goal courtesy a Tijani Joshua strike at the Len Clay Stadium to complete a 2-0 score on aggregate after an earlier 1-0 victory over the Porcupine Warriors at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday.

Even with full knowledge of their final berth, AshGold’s opponents for the finals remain undecided as the Lions-Hearts of Oak game was brought to an abrupt end deep into a penalty shoot-out after the game had ended 1-0 in favour of Hearts after regulation time.

Former Kotoko striker Ahmed Toure was at hand to nip in a low strike into the bottom corner after connecting to a Kwame Kizito cross on 68 minutes to give the Phobians the all-important winner.

With the score on a 1-1 aggregate after the first leg had ended on a 1-0 win for Lions last Saturday, the game headed straight into penalties only to be brought to an abrupt end by Referee William Agbovi at a 4-4 penalty score due to poor visibility as a result of the non-functioning of the flood lights at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Robin Gnagne, Winful Cobbinah, Isaac Oduro and Kwame Kizito all scored for the Phobians while Sam Yeboah, Prince Acquah, Razir Mohammed and Asiamah Badu converted their kicks for the Giant Killers in a game which began at 4pm. Max Boakye and John Kuffuor, however, missed their kicks for Hearts and AshGold respectively.

Information reaching footy-Ghana.com indicates there would be a rematch on Friday to determine who joins AshantiGold for the finals.
