The Board Chairman of Bechem United FC, Kingsley Owusu, has highlighted the club's commitment to using football as a tool to support education and keep young people away from social vices.
Speaking at the Education Through Sports Football Tournament, which seeks to identify talented players for opportunities in Italy, Owusu said the initiative was established to help young people combine sports with education and personal development.
According to him, the programme was designed to attract young people through football and create pathways for them to further their education and improve their lives.
"We started Education Through Sports to bring the boys out of the streets, to help them further their education," he said.
He explained that Bechem United has over the years played a key role in helping young footballers secure opportunities abroad, particularly in Europe.
"In summary, Bechem United has been behind a lot of footballers moving to Europe, especially in Italy. And we thought that by promoting football, the boys will be attracted, and we can help them further their education," he stated.
Owusu noted that although the Education Through Sports initiative was formally launched later, the club had been supporting young footballers since 2007.

He also acknowledged the contribution of partners such as the Diaspora African Forum (DAF) and Miracle Africa, describing them as critical to the success of the programme.
"We cannot talk about Education Through Sports without mentioning DAF Embassy. They've been instrumental in all the trips that we've made outside Ghana," he said.
He advised young people to remain disciplined and focused despite life's challenges.
"My advice to them is that it is always possible. You may be in an obscure position without hope, but somehow you may hit the jackpot sometime," he said
