Financial crisis hits Sports Ministry as Black Stars coaches go two months unpaid

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is facing a major financial crisis as Black Stars coaches have not been paid for two months (June & July), FootballMadeInGhana can exclusively report.

Coach Kwesi Appiah, Ibrahim Tanko, Maxwell Konadu, Richard Kingston and Stephen Appiah are yet to receive their financial entitlements over a month after the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

This latest development comes as a surprise per the breakdown of the AFCON budget provided by the Sports Minister on the floor of parliament.

Mr. Asiamah revealed that a humongous amount of $4.6 million was spent during the continental showpiece.

Of this amount, an excess of $1M was spent on winning bonuses alone. So it begs the question really, how is the Ministry struggling to pay the coaches?

Meanwhile, the Management of Nduom Sports Stadium and Coconut Groove Hotel are also on the heels of the cash-strapped Sports Ministry claiming a cost of ?430k incurred during the 2018 Africa Women’s AFCON.

The manager of the companies, PHILIP LUD said they have written to the Ministry to settle the debt but to no avail.

The two entities could turn attention to the court soon to address their grievances.
