Chile match was a cliffhanger – Sellas

Black Satellites head coach Sellas Tetteh has described the Ghana v Chile game as a cliffhanger.

Speaking to journalists after Ghana beat Chile 4-3 after extra time to book a semifinal place at the ongoing FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Turkey, Tetteh noted that both sides sold out an entertaining game for fans to enjoy.

Tetteh added: “It was a cliffhanger of a match. We showed resilience and tenacity. I am happy that both sides gave a very good account of themselves and that is what this tournament deserves; to entertain and let people enjoy beautiful football.”

He also told reporters that it was a wonderful feeling to see Ghana reach another semifinal in the competition’s history, adding that despite suspensions ruling out the likes of Moses Odjer, Lawrence Lartey and Joseph Attamah, he would work towards fielding a formidable team against France on Wednesday.

“It is a wonderful feeling for us to progress to the semifinal. I keep on saying that we started from a very low point and the progression of this team is wonderful.

“I brought 21 capable and able players so I would get good substitutes for those who are out. Football is a collective game, not individual game. So we will do our best and present a formidable team against France and from there we see how it goes,” the coach said.

Tetteh, who won the 2009 FIFA Under 20 World Cup with Ghana, declined to single out an individual for praise, noting that all the players gave off their best.

“I will pick all of them. It’s a collective game and with the massive effort they all gave, it will not be right to pick just one of them. This is a total complete performance from a complete, determined side so I will pick all of them as best players.”

The team’s assistant coach, Yaw Preko, also praised the players for fighting back from adversity to win the match.
