I’m not interested in individual awards – Assifuah

Black Satellites striker Ebenezer Assifuah says helping Ghana win laurels means more to him than picking up individual awards.

Assifuah, who has scored four goals so far at the ongoing 2013 FIFA Under 20 World Cup, told Takoradi-based radio station Skyy Power FM that his biggest aim is to help the Satellites win the competition.

He added: “I just want to help the team win the cup and that is more important than any individual honours. If I win the golden boot or golden ball at the end of the day, then fine, but my main aim is to help this team win the cup.”

Assifuah, who scored twice in Ghana’s thrilling quarterfinal win over Chile, also told Skyy Power FM that the players are focused on winning the competition and, as a result, were not downcast when down 1-2 to the Chileans.

“We knew that we couldn’t lose the game because our aim is to win the cup so we encouraged ourselves and that worked for us in coming back to win the game,” he said.

Assifuah noted that even though Ghana lost to France in the team’s opening match, the Black Satellites would not be under any pressure ahead of the re-match on Wednesday, adding that Ghana aims to avenge the opening day 1-3 loss.
