Black Stars goalkeeper Paul Reverson has revealed that Andre Onana was one of the players he admired most while developing as a young goalkeeper.
Reverson made the remarks in an interview with 3Sports after returning to Ghana following his departure from the Black Stars’ World Cup camp.
The goalkeeper was initially part of Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup but did not make the final squad selected for the tournament.
Despite the disappointment, Reverson has continued to reflect on his football journey and the figures who influenced his development between the posts.
Speaking about his inspirations, the young goalkeeper explained that his admiration changed as he grew older and gained more experience in the game.
“When I was younger, I looked up to Manuel Neuer. When I grew older, I looked up to Andre Onana because he was also at Ajax,” he said.

Manuel Neuer is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation and revolutionised the position with his sweeper-keeper style during his time with Bayern Munich and the German national team. However, Onana’s rise through the ranks at Ajax made the Cameroonian a particularly relatable figure for Reverson.
