Asabere advices Hearts against move for expatriate coach

Former General Secretary of the Hearts of Oak National Chapters Committee, Maxwell Asabere, is urging the Board of the Phobian club to consider hiring an experienced indigenous trainer and forget hiring an expatriate coach.

The spokesperson of Hearts of Oak, Muheeb Saeed recently confirmed that the Rainbow club’s Board was considering the appointment of Danish Coach Tommy Moller Nielsen as the replacement for under-pressure Mohammed Polo, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

“My position on coaching in the club is simple. As far as coaching is concerned, I don’t believe any white coach can move Hearts of Oak forward better than any Ghanaian coach so I have dismissed the idea of entertaining an expatriate at this time of the history of the club,” Asabere told Power FM Sports.

“If I were to be listened to, I will go for a local coach presumably Herbert Addo or any other experienced coach who knows the terrain and can lead us into a proper recruitment drive and then lead us into a proper pre-season,” the staunch Phobian added.

Some Hearts of Oak fans have backed the move by the club’s Board to consider hiring the 52-year-old Danish trainer because the supporters are eager to see Mohammed Polo sacked.

Tommy Moller Nielsen is a retired Danish player who has coached clubs including Scottish club Rangers and Danish side Viborg FF and was the Sporting Director of Israeli club Maccabi Netanya in 2008 and 2009.
