The Chief Operating Officer for StarTimes Ghana, Felix Ahonzo has disclosed that the TV Company is officially unaware of the cancellation of the Leagues in Ghana by the Ghana Football Association.

Felix told Kumasi FM in an interview granted on July 1st 2020, a day after the Ghana FA cancelled the various leagues.

“It is within the right of the executive council of the GFA to take a decision on the season and now that the decision is been taken, it is for them to inform us officially on the decision taken and ways we can prepare for the next league”.

According to Mr. Ahonzo, it is quite worrying that the Ghana FA has not been able to play a successful league campaign since 2017.

“It is a concern that we cannot continuously play our league for some time now but given the current situation, it is important to consider human lives than football. It is not the fault of the GFA in cancelling the league and not fulfilling their part of the contract. We will hold a discussion with the GFA to find an amicable way of reaching a consensus”he said.

He further stated that StarTimes as a stakeholder is only interested in the progress of Ghana football and for that matter, the decision to cancel the league may not sit well with the Mother – Company.

“As stakeholders, we are only interested in the development of Ghana football. It is obvious our mother company will have a concern but we talk to them”, he added.

Startimes Ghana signed a five-year deal with the Ghana FA as TV partners before the commencement of the 2019 – 20 season.
