King Faisal reacts to cancellation of football season

King Faisal's status as GPL club remains intact King Faisal's status as GPL club remains intact

A Director of Ghana Premier League side King Faisal FC, Nana Amankwah has shared his joy and relief at the decision of the Ghana Football Association to cancel the 2019-20 football season.

The Ghana FA’s executive council after a marathon meeting yesterday decided to annul the season which had been suspended since March 16 due to the CoronaVirus pandemic.

The decision is deemed as devastating for a football industry that was about finding its feet after close to 2 years on non-competitive action due to a period of normalization after the Anas Exposé.

Many football connoisseurs rooted for cancellation of the season as they cited as practically impossible for football to resume in the circumstances the country found itself in.

One consistent voice in this crusade was Alhaji Karim Gruzah, owner of King Faisal who were struggling and bound for demotion to the Division One league.

Following the annulment of the season, there shall be no demotion or promotion as stated by the Ghana FA, meaning King Faisal’s status as a premier league club remains intact.

Nana Amankwah in an interview with OTEC FM has shared his excitement at this development, describing it as good news not just for the club, but for Ghana Football.

“It’s good news for football fans and the players, not only King Faisal FC. We thank God, it will prevent us from getting the virus. We all wanted the best for our game,” Nana Amankwah told OTEC FM.

“What happened to us which with the help of COVID-19 the league has been canceled will never repeat again so we will prepare well before the next season start,” he added.

“Clubs should advise themselves and make sure they don’t go through what happened to us (King Faisal),” he concluded.
