The President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Kwabena Yeboah, has called on the government to come to the aid of football clubs amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The current football season has been suspended for almost three months due to the pandemic which has seen a lot of clubs in financial crisis due to the absence of football.

Some club administrators have voiced out on the struggles they are going through as a result of the havoc caused by the pandemic on their private businesses, resulting to player’s salaries and wages locked up for several months.

Speaking in an interview with Ghana’s number one Sports Station, Happy 98.9 FM he said.

“If there is any way the government can cushion the financial plight of our clubs by providing some form of financial package to the clubs we will appreciate it. In the past government was sponsoring our clubs in Africa and we are at a crucial stage where clubs really need help."

“So the government has played a role in supporting our clubs and if the government does not I am afraid some of the clubs may fold up”, he added.

The Ghana Football Association is still engaging the government to come to the aid of football clubs amid the difficulties borne out of the pandemic.
