GAF and TOR sign 6.1 billion cedis agreement

Tema, Dec. 22, GNA - Management of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Wednesday signed a 6.1 billion cedis agreement for the construction and rehabilitation of roads and pavements for the inner and outer perimeter of the refinery. The project to be undertaken by armed forces personnel would have cost 8.1 billion cedis if it had been awarded to civilian contractors, and the two billion cedis saved would be channelled into the development of other ventures.

Dr Kofi Kodua Sarpong, Managing Director of TOR signed on behalf of management while Lieutenant General Joseph Boateng Danquah, Chief of Defence Staff signed for GAF.

Dr Kodua said the project expected to be completed within nine months would cover about 15 kilometres of the refinery. He said management had instituted measures to give the refinery a facelift by rehabilitating vital strategic areas such as the roads and pavements to safe guard the plant.

Dr Koduah said competitiveness of the quotation for the contract, the efficiency, and skilful jobs of the military as well as promotion of civil and military cooperation convinced TOR to offer the project to GAF.

Lt. Gen. Danquah said although the military had an objective to ensure peace, stability and defend nation, it was adequately equipped to undertake other skilful contracts to generate revenue to supplement Government's allocation to them.

He therefore, urged the public to count on the military for contracts in afforestation, catering services, engineering and other sectors of the economy.

The Chief of Defence Staff promised the management of TOR of quality services and thanked them for the confidence reposed in the military for the contract.

He noted that this would strengthen the existing cordial relations between the military and civilians.
