Involve Pastors and Imams in coronavirus fight – Lecturer

A Lecturer at the Presbyterian University College, Ghana, Kwahu Campus Dr. Michael Ayertey Nanor has appealed to the government to give Pastors and Imams more voice in the education of the public to help fight coronavirus in the country.

According to him, when these religious leaders are given the opportunity to educate the public on COVID-19, the nation will see huge impact adding that “I suppose their message will sink to the people, there are most of them who trust their religious leaders more than an MP or any other person so let’s give them the chance in educating the nation on COVID-19’’.

Dr Micahel Ayertey Nanor was contributing to a panel discussion on Agoo FM’s weekend political Show dubbed Fire Issues as the number of recorded cases in the Eastern keeps increasing.

In the Eastern Region, Some Districts have recorded their first cases creating fear among others. Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality recorded its first three cases a few days ago.

Other areas include Birem North District, Koforidua, West Akim, and Suhum.

The rate at which residents comply with the directives to combat the virus in the region is low. Some have raised concerns that there is no coronavirus which experts say is dangerous so far as the spread is concerned.

Dr Nanor commenting further condemned such perception with the Bible verse quoting Ephesians Chapter 5 vrs 15-17 which read; “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, (16) Redeeming the time because the days are evil. (17) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord.

On his part a social commentator and COVID -19 Ambassador Nana Benyin Essuman said, “this coronavirus issue is not like a concert party, you see people walking around doing their usual business as if there is nothing wrong.

”After the lockdown, the people think all is well but our cases keep increasing so we must be vigilant," he stated
