Michael Ocquaye Jnr leads Ghana’s Missions abroad to donate to Noguchi

Ghana’s Missions abroad have donated an amount of $100,000 to the COVID-19 Trust Fund to augment government’s effort to manage the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus that has hit the nation hard.

The home-based staff of the Ghana’s Missions made this donation to support front line health workers who have sacrificed their lives in the ongoing fight against the novel virus which has so far claimed 31 lives in the country.

“We resolved to make this voluntary contribution into the Fund to enable the procurement of critical items such as Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) and other medical supplies, especially Test Kits for Frontline Health Workers,” Michael Ocquaye Jnr, the High Commissioner to India, stated in his speech during the donation to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

Michael Ocquaye Jnr who is also NPP’s parliamentary aspirant for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, said that they were moved to support this worthy cause knowing that “we are all in this pandemic together” hence the need to complement government efforts as patriotic Ghanaians.

In his address he explained that since “Ghana has adopted the protocols of Testing, Contact Tracing, Isolation and Treatment in the fight against the pandemic”, the amount of $100,000 apart from being used to purchase Test Kits to assist, particularly, the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and other Research Laboratories, should also be used to purchase resources to conduct more tests to aid government’s globally-acknowledged efforts.

He assured that contributions of Ghanaians in the diaspora are also being mobilized and will be brought in, as and when it’s ready.

The event was attended by Honourable Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ahmed Tijani, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, as well as the Director of Noguchi Medical Research Center Prof. Kwabena Mante Bosompem and Senior Officials of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

Prof. Mante Bosompem, who received the donation on behalf of the facility expressed his profound gratitude to the team for their kind gesture and appealed to other NGO’s to emulate the shining example of Ghana’s Missions.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, following the outbreak of the pandemic, set up the Covid-19 National Trust Fund, under the distinguished Chair of Her Ladyship the former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo.
