President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku, has revealed snippets of his first-ever interaction with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Kurt paid a courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo few days after commencing work as GFA President.

The visit served as an official introduction for the former Dreams FC man who had taken over the seat previously occupied by Kwesi Nyantakyi.

It has now emerged that Nana Akufo-Addo made a request to Kurt Okraku at that meeting.

The first remark by the President according to Okraku was to inquire about when the country’s trophy drought was going to end.

Kurt revealed on GhanaWeb’s Sports Check that like every Ghanaian, the president is deeply concerned by the drought which has lasted almost four decades.

“I will go back to my engagement with the President. In the conversation he asked the question that ‘Mr President when will we started bring the big trophies to Ghana’”?

Kurt Okraku says he couldn’t give the President an outright answer but assured him that with good planning and a good foundation, trophies will be won soon.

“That was the voice representing the voiceless in this country. Everybody in this country since 1982 has been yearning for the AFCON trophy. We haven’t won any major trophy at the club level since beyond the reach of Hearts of Oak in 2004. Our u-17 has not won at the mundial anymore. Our U-20 has not made it. Clearly it tells you the country is year for trophies and celebration”.

“I said to him (the President) that the journey has just began and we need to get the basics right. If we get the basics right, I will not have a doubt that we can reach the target of envy”.
