Amadu Tanko sworn in as first Muslim Supreme Court Justice

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sworn into office Issifo Omoro Amadu Tanko as a Supreme Court Justice.

The President swore Justice Tanko into office at a colourful ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday attended by a handful of people, including Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

Following his nomination by President Akufo-Addo a couple of weeks ago, Justice Tanko made history as the first Muslim to be nominated as a Supreme Court Judge and his swearing in today completed an historic rise to the apex court of the land.

After swearing him in, President Akufo-Addo Addo congratulated Justice Tanko for his remarkable rise and said his historic rise as the first Muslim Supreme Court Judge in the history of the country is inspiring.

The President added that he being sworn into office in the holy month of Ramadan symbolises blessings.

Justice Tanko thanked the President for the honour and the confidence he has bestowed in him and assured that he will deliver to the best of his ability.

Due to the coronavirus restrictions, a few people attended the swearing-in ceremony, with a handful of Muslim and Zongo leaders accompanying the National Chief Imam to offer Justice Tanko moral support.
