The Odumase Council, Kingmakers of the Manya Krobo Traditional Stool say the council destooled the Paramount Queen Mother for the Manya Krobo traditional area for non-performance.

A statement issued by the Council, dated Tuesday, May 19, 2020, and signed by its secretary, Bah Sackitey said Nana Aplam II was destooled for failing to perform her primary duties to the satisfaction of the Stool.

The decision, it maintains, was taken after what it calls “extensive investigation, consultation and review.”

“After an extensive investigation, consultation and review, the council concluded that Nana Aplam II after almost five years on the stool, failed to perform her primary duties to the satisfaction of the standards of the Manya Krobo Stool and in accord with the duties, responsibilities and obligations of the Paramount Queen of the Manya Krobo State,” the statement read.

The Odumase Council through the statement maintains that the decision taken against Nana Aplam II was arrived after an impartial, fair and transparent process and reiterates its commitment to providing consistent and effective leadership.

The immediate destoolment of Nana Aplam II was announced to her before a meeting of chiefs and elders of the Area on Monday, May 11, 2020 at Odumase Krobo.

Sources linked her destoolment to her recent marriage to a man from the Manya Division, headed by the Divisional Chief of the Area, Okpatakpla Nene Sasraku IV who together with four other Divisional Chiefs in October 2019, declared their autonomy from Nene Sakite II and elevated all six Divisional Stools to independent paramountcies, describing her actions as an act of betrayal.

Nana Aplam II will go down in history as the first Queen Mother to be destooled in the Manya Krobo Traditional Area.

The Kingmakers of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area are under customary obligation to present a new candidate for installation as Queen Mother of the Area.

Privately known as Grace Asare, Nana Aplam II was installed the Queen Mother of the Manya-Krobo Traditional Area in 2015 and succeeded the former Queen Mother of the Area, Nana Mamle Okleyo, who died in 2012.
