We are scared of coronavirus but we need to survive – Madina Hairdressers

It’s been three days since President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lifted the restriction on movements in parts of the country and many people in the affected areas are getting back to work.

For hairdressers at the Madina Zongo junction, business is picking up at a very slow pace.

Speaking to GhanaWeb on Wednesday, the ladies said even though they are scared of getting infected they still need money to survive hence their decision to go back to work immediately the president ended the lockdown.

“We are scared of the coronavirus but for the sake of our survival and money, we would have to work. However, we caution about everything we do here so we don’t contract the disease,” one of the hairdressers said.

But business hasn’t been good so far and they can only hope it will get better in the coming days.

“Market has been very bad, I’ve had only one customer since morning. We are really protecting ourselves like the president encouraged us the other time. There will always be that fear of contracting the disease but I’m urging people to trust in God. People are not patronizing the market because of the fear of contracting the disease.”

The artisans stated that they have been taking safety precautions in order not to get infected or infect others.

“We have been adhering to the president’s safety protocols directive ever since he lifted the ban on restrictions of movement. It’s also imperative for the customers who patronize this market to protect themselves against the coronavirus. We wear our mask, wash our hands, and apply the hand sanitizer and also sanitize all our essential tools whenever we come here work.”

Another appealed to government to give the Coronavirus the needed attention so it can be eradicated from the country as soon as possible.

“We are appealing to the government to channel maximum effort in the fight against coronavirus so we the citizens will be free to carry out our normal duties.”

Ghana has recorded 1154 cases of the Coronavirus with 9 deaths and 120 recoveries.
