250 AngloGold Ashanti workers to lose job

Bibiani(W/R), Oct.18, GNA - About 250 workers of AngloGold Ashanti Bibiani Limited are likely to lose their jobs following a retrenchment exercise being embarked upon by the company.

So far, 90 workers had been laid off as part of the exercise. Mr Tom Richardson, General Manager of the company, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Bibiani, said the exercise, was necessitated by the reduction in the level of the company's operations. He said, the company had held series of meetings between the management and representatives of the various departments since last year. Mr Richardson said the exercise was being carried out with a human face and advised the affected workers who had interest in grasscutter rearing to contact the company's grasscutter project for counselling to earn a livelihood.
