GHC100 allowance: Morale rapidly declining among police – Security Analyst

Security expert, Saani Adib says he has gathered low morale among police officers enforcing lockdown measures especially in the capital, Accra following the officers' discontent in their motivation.

He told Anopa Kasapa morning Show host, Kweku Owusu Adjei that in his routine monitoring on Monday, he realised police officers were less eager to give off their best, and in some instances abandoned security protocols on the street.

“They were not even doing any rigorous checks, and you could see they’re largely not happy with the Police administration with regards to the level of motivation,” Adib reiterated.

Police personnel have complained bitterly that their allowance which should be GHC100 daily per head has been reduced by the superiors. They claimed some of them are being given GHC50.00.

The law-enforcers say they want their physical cash and don’t want their allowance to be converted into daily ration because the food that is served them is of poor quality.

Adib has cautioned the Police hierarchy to address the concerns of the officers to prevent a situation that might frustrate operations on the streets.

Meanwhile, police personnel enforcing the Covid-19 lockdown in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region on Tuesday boycotted food that was served them by the police administration.

The food had reportedly gone bad when it was handed over to the police personnel hence their reaction.

“We rejected the food because it was spoilt when we checked it. The rice, for instance, was beginning to gather water. We just couldn’t have eaten that food to endanger our lives,” a police officer told Kasapa FM’s Yaw Boagyan under condition of anonymity.
