The Bolgatanga Polytechnic in the Upper East Region has now been elevated to the status of a Technical University.

Parliament on Thursday night amended the Technical Universities Act(922) which has effectively converted the Bolgatanga Polytechnic and the Wa Polytechnic in the Upper West Region to Technical Universities.

A Member of Parliament’s select committee on education and National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Builsa South Dr. Clement Apaak said in an interview on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga that “This is a great achievement for us and students of the two institutions must surely be jubilating.”

Eight out of the then ten polytechnics in Ghana were converted to the status of technical universities which commenced at the beginning of 2016/17 academic session.

However, the Bolgatanga and Wa Polytechnics were not elevated to university status because they did not meet the criteria for conversion. This affected enrollment and revenue of the two institutions.

Following the unfortunate development, management of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic embarked on a massive enhancement agenda to enable them meet the criteria.

These included infrastructural expansion, installation of equipments for purposes of studies, recruitment of new staff and upgrade of qualification and credentials of staff through academic training.

MyNewsGh.com sources at the now Technical University said new programs have been approved and would be introduced to enhance the ratings of the institution.
