Four metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) in the Eastern Region have heightened surveillance after recording a sharp increase in guests, probably due to the lockdown in Accra, Kumasi, Tema and Kasoa.

Four municipal assemblies in the Eastern Region have issued out a directive to check and curb coronavirus following the influx of persons into some parts of the region after the lockdown announcement by the President.

The assemblies’ directive in collaboration with the Public Health Emergency Committee includes checkpoints in 15 designated areas, testing of passengers in commercial vehicles and running of markets on shift basis.

Hotels and guest house have been asked to provide figures of visitors from March 29, 2020.

The assemblies have also decided to step up education efforts.

The implementation of the directive would start on Tuesday, March 31,2020.

The Eastern Region as at March 29, 2020 had recorded 27 suspected cases.

Twenty negative, four results pending.
