Residents in the Western Region have expressed worry over the possible transfer of vertical infections in the region as they fear many could travel to other regions.

Their fear stems from the President’s 4th address to the nation on coronavirus cases which is on the rise in Ghana with 137 confirmed cases and four deaths that as part of measures to contain and manage the fast-spreading novel virus.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his address announced a lockdown of Greater Accra, Tema and Ashanti Region.

After the much-anticipated address, Takoradi-based Empire FM, which is a subsidiary of EIB was inundated by calls from some residents who said they are receiving calls from their friends and relatives in the affected areas about a possible visit.

One caller who identified herself as Irene Boateng told Empire News: "I have just received a call from my friend in Tema who is asked to come and stay with, I don’t know what to do now the President’s directive should have taken immediate effect but that is not the case from now till Monday morning people will troop to Takoradi a lot", she lamented.

Another caller, Martin Yalley, expressed fear that other persons may carry the virus to the Region and want the police and other security agencies to discourage from travelling from Accra, Tema and Kumasi to the oil city.
