Coronavirus: Take precaution, no Christian immune – Otabil

No Christian is immune to COVID-19 so take precaution, the founder and leader of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil has advised.

His comment comes on the back of promises by some pastors to their members that as far as they continue to pay their tithes or purchase certain kinds of oil for spiritual or prophetic directions, they will be immune to COVID-19.

Speaking in a Live Facebook session at his church auditorium in Accra on Thursday, 26 March 2020, Pastor Otabil said: “Every Christian must take precautions, they are not immune, we don’t have any immunity in any form.

“Some preacher may tell you; some pastors may tell you that you have spiritual immunity but I don’t think so. I think we can claim healing in the name of Jesus, I think we can claim the promises of God and we have to constantly wage a warfare every day, every time.

“When you get infected you have to pray and trust God for healing, before you are infected pray for God to protect you because none of us is immune, none of us is exempt from life and what it presents to us.”

At Afram Plains there is a wild chase for strands of hair purportedly hidden in the Bible to make people immune to COVID-19.

The direction came from a prophet who claims anyone who finds the hair in the Bible must put it in water and bath with it to protect themselves from the disease.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has clearly advised people to observe social distancing, wash hands regularly with soap under running water for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol-based hand sanitisers and eat healthy to boost the immune system as the ways to avoid getting infected.

According to figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO), as of Thursday, 26 March 2020, 465,915 cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed globally with 21,031 deaths recorded.

In Ghana, 132 cases have been confirmed with three deaths.
