CWSA announces a comprehensive outreach strategy on coronavirus prevention

The Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), a public institution responsible for providing WASH services to rural communities and small towns in Ghana, has announced a comprehensive outreach strategy to educate people on COVID-19 prevention.

The move, is a follow up to measures announced by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, to prevent and contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency Mr Worlanyo Kwadjo Siabi, the Chief Executive of CWSA, said the Agency towards the implementation of the strategy, which was focused on the promotion of effective hand-washing with soap, application of alcohol-based sanitizers.

He said the Agency had deployed hand-washing logistics through the regional and water system offices to be given to rural folks.

“Our offices will engage communities through local radio stations and community information center, to provide the right information on proper hand-washing with soap and how to avoid contracting the coronavirus disease,” he said.

Mr Siabi said the CWSA would provide assistance to communities to
construct simple local hand-washing facilities especially at the household level, such as tippy taps.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, he started working with the Agency through the Public Health Emergency Committee across the country to provide assistance to communities, and CWSA is a member.

Mr Siabi noted that the Agency would ensure that water was available to facilitate proper hand-washing with soap under running water in rural communities and small towns.

“Please avoid communal handwashing and sharing of hand towels, make hand-washing with soap a priority, keep your distance, protect yourself and others,” he advised.
